The Doane College men's track and field team claimed victory on Saturday evening in Lincoln at the 2013 Indoor Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Championships held at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. They claimed their seventh straight indoor crown by topping second place Morningside College, 172-132. Concordia finished in third place with 110 points.
Athletes placing in the Top 8 of an event earned points for their teams as well as all-conference honors; the Doane men had 33.
The meet opened on Friday afternoon in Crete at Doane College (Fuhrer Field House) with the multi-events. The heptathlon covered two days with Doane jumping out with a good start. The Tigers placed four athletes in the Top 8, lead by Rob Keeney's school and GPAC record total of 5,296 points. Also posting NAIA "A" standard marks were Kale Wolken, Brad Higgins and Jake Krueger.
The men's 4x800m relay team of Josh Whyrick, Zach Christensen, Jarid Holliday and Jory Pflasterer posted an "A" standard NAIA mark with a third place finish in a time of 7:53.48.
Sam Housh won the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.18, an "A" standard mark. Jake Kment hit an "A" standard mark in the mile run with a time of 4:19.01 as he placed second. Pflasterer placed 4th in the 600m run with a time of 1:21.22, a "B" standard mark.
The men's 4x400m relay posted a "B" standard time of 3:20.02 in the final event of the day. Running on the relay were Kyle Royse, Pflasterer, Alex Reynolds and Kent McCrimmon.
Zack Lindsley was a double winner, claiming the individual title in the weight throw and shot put with "A" standard marks. In the weight throw, he posted a GPAC record toss of 64-06.50 and in the shot put he had a throw of 58-05.25.
Levi Hillman posted a "B" standard mark in the weight throw with a toss of 55-11.75. In the shot put, Kyle Bartlett had a throw of 55-00.75 for an "A" standard mark.
In the triple jump, Mauro Parnell posted an "A" standard mark with a jump of 58-02.50.
Zack Wordekemper posted a "B" standard mark in the pole vault with a mark of 15-05.00.
At the end of the meet, 18 Doane athletes earning team points also posted season-best marks.
